Sensei Dane Krohn

|
Dane Krohn started his Martial Arts Journey at the age of 17 when he
decided to go with a friend to the Eagle Dojo in Lindale Texas. There, Krohn
studied Isshin-Ryu (the Whole Hearted Way) Karate With 30 Year teaching
veteran and Karate master 4th Dan Frank McDaniel. Krohn received his Black
Belt at age 18, a third of the standard time it take a student to achieve
this rank within the Isshi-Ryu system. Upon completion of his Black Belt,
Krohn began training with Daniel Ikemoto at the Chi Quan (Fist of Power)
School of Gong Fu, studying a new blend of Hung Gar Gong Fu and the Plum
Flower Fist styles. Krohn also studied more in depth Hung Gar with Master
Philip Ikemoto, 2nd Dan Isshin-Ryu Black Belt and lifetime Hung Gar
Practitioner, also a Classmate of the famous Hung Gar instructor Buck Sam
Kong. Krohn continued his study of Gong Fu (Time and Energy) in the styles
of Yang Style Tai Chi, Northern Seven Star Mantis, Shaolin Five Animals, and
Northern and Southern forms of Drunken Boxing eventually culminating his own
system of Drunken Gong Fu to be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill
sets. Krohn then began work with Grand Master Troy Smith, President of the
United Martial Arts Society, and the Ko Shin Kwan Hapkido Federation in the
Korean Arts including Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. Upon completion of his 2nd
Dan in Isshin-Ryu 2003, Krohn began to teaching with Master McDainel and
then began to teach lessons on a private basis. In 2004, he founded the
Black Dragon Martial Arts Society as a teaching tool for all involved to
learn about and understand different styles of Martial Arts. The name "Black
Dragon" was pulled from the Northern Shaolin system of Drunken Boxing, which
has many black dragon techniques, and was inspired by an experience told
here by Sensei Krohn:
"I was jogging one afternoon thinking about the wonderful weather and
the upcoming tests I had and as I turned around to jog back home, I was face
to face with a huge rain cloud! There where no signs of rain, it was sunny
and beautiful, but the cloud blacked the afternoon sky and reminded me of
the Chinese Dragons nature, beautiful, but fierce and sudden. It also
reminded me that things can turn from good to crazy in a matter of seconds,
like a self-defense situation. As the rain came down and the sun fought
through the clouds, I decided the symbol that would follow me for the rest
of my life, the Black Dragon. It was one of those great moments that I don¹t
think I¹ll ever forget and makes for a great story!"
As Krohn's student base grew, so did the need for more space. In
November 2006, Krohn Opened the Black Dragon Martial Arts Academy, and as
Krohn says, "Hopefully the first of many!" Krohn has a Love for the study
and practice of all martial arts and this love is expressed in his positive
teaching methods.
"I love Martial Arts, all kinds! There is something for everyone when
it comes to classes, from Self-Defense to competition, exercise, to the most
important aspect, Character Building. I want all my students to not only
learn to be great Martial Arts practitioners, but productive members of
society. I want my younger student to learn good manners, respect,
discipline, perseverance, self control, a good love for their community and
country as well as good goal setting skills and health exercise habits."
Krohn currently Holds a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Isshin-ryu Karate, a 2nd Dan
Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and is the Texas State Director for the United
Martial Arts Society (UMAS) and a member of numerous Martial Arts
organizations such as the International Tae Kwon Do Alliance (ITA), the
Black Belts of the Faith international (BBFI), and the United States
National Tae Kwon Do Federation (USNTF). Krohn has also competed in
tournaments around the state of Texas qualifying for nationals twice.
Krohn Says,
"The Taller the Bamboo grows, the lower it must bow. Every student of
martial arts is on a lifetime path of learning and adapting. This is every
style's only constant and we must all embrace the fact that we never stop
learning." |
